Tea seed oil
With its high smoke point (485°F.), tea seed oil is the main cooking oil in some of the southern provinces of China, such as Hunanroughly one-seventh of the country's population.
Tea seed oil resembles olive oil and grape seed oil in its excellent storage qualities and low content of saturated fat. Monounsaturated oleic acid may comprise up to 88 percent of the fatty acids. It is high in vitamin E and other antioxidants and contains no natural trans fats.
Tea seed oil is used in salad dressings, dips, marinades and sauces, for sautéing, stir frying and frying and in margarine production.
Tea seed oil is used to manufacture soap, hair oil, lubricants, paint and a rustproofing oil as well as in synthesis of other high molecular weight compounds. Soapmaking tables list it as one of the comparatively few oils that produce high-lather soap. Japanese tea seed oil is used for setting the hair of Sumo wrestlers and for tempura. Camellia oil is also used as rust protection for a variety of woodworking hand tools such as chisels and planes.
Camellia oil is different from Green tea seed oil. People may be confused by the difference between camellia oil and green tea seed oil. They distinctions are listed as follows:
(1) Different raw materials: Green tea seed oil is form the traditional drink green tea tree seeds, after drying squeezed, and then refined to meet the quality standards of the international market. Camellia oil is refined form Tea-oil tree seed. Leaching of camellia oil is to refine the unrefined oil that leach from cake dregs which are squeezed.
(2) Different ingredients: the main difference between green tea oil and camellia oil is the content of tea polyphenols. Tea polyphenols which are good for human health is nearly five to ten times in the green tea oil than camellia oil. Fatty acid content is also very different: green tea oil with about 56-68% oleic acid, linoleic acid containing 22-28%, the oleic acid content in camellia oil is about 78-86%, linoleic acid content is about 6-11%.
(3) English name is different.
